| NewsCCCF Welcomes Mary Kay WilliamsCCCF Board unanimously approved Mary Kay Williams as its Executive Director on September 10, replacing Bob Potter who resigned effective April 15. A resident of Spring Mills, Mary Kay was selected from more than 40 candidates nationwide. Mary Kay plans to be full-time with the Foundation by November 1. While her appointment became effectively immediately, she assumed her responsibilities on a part-time basis to fulfill her commitments with MindShift Consulting. She founded this training and consulting venture to address the areas of leadership, diversity initiatives and performance management with businesses and organizations. Not totally new to CCCF, Mary Kay was one of the three outside consultants enlisted to direct and implement the Focus Centre County initiative. This initiative continues to be one of her current concentrated efforts (see below). We've MovedCome visit us at our new location in State College! Box 648, State College, PA 16804 "Focus Centre County" UpdateOn Monday, September 10th the participants who attended the all-county focus group at Central Pennsylvania Institute of Technology and Science identified two issues that head Centre County residents' concerns: affordable housing and family and children's services. Twenty-two representatives from those two fields then spent October 8 at the Penn Stater addressing both issues, looking at specific needs and services already working to address those needs. At the end of the day, both issues still headed the list. This leaves it to the CCCF Board of Directors to decide which area will be the focus of the Foundation's efforts and resources. Two major considerations in the decision will be to address a specific area for which the Foundation can pull together resources to impact, and one that will make life better for the residents of Centre County. Obvious perhaps, but to make any impact on some part of either of these issues will continue to take the efforts of the individuals, service providers and businesses working together. We look forward to the next step! We officially announced on Thursday, June 14 this exciting initiative that the Centre County Community Foundation is undertaking. For more information contact the Foundation at 814-237-6229. 25th Anniversary Annual Report Now AvailableWe are pleased to announce that our Report to the Community for 2006 is now available. We have mailed over 11,000 copies to Centre County residents and are distributing copies to our friends who wish to have them available in their offices. In addition to material that we include every year - grants awarded in 2006, brief overviews of each named fund, financial report, etc. - this issue features individuals who tell their stories about the place of the Foundation in their lives-part of our 25- year history. If you haven't received a copy and would like one - or would like additional copies to give away or for us to mail out - please contact the office at 237-6229 or email us at info@centrecountycf.org. IRA Charitable RolloverThe Pension Protection Act of 2006 permits individuals to distribute up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing any taxable income on the distribution transferred to the qualifying charity. A qualified charitable distribution is a distribution from a traditional or Roth IRA of an individual who is 70 ½ years of age or older to an eligible charitable organization. This opportunity applies for distributions made in 2006 and 2007 only. This could be an excellent opportunity for those with “overfunded” IRAs to transfer funds to charity now and see the good results at work while still living. For more information, please contact your financial advisor or the CCCF office.
